Things to do around rosewood guesthouse B&B in margaret river

Where to visit in Margaret River and the Region and who is looking after you!

Picture
Your Hosts
Jane and Keith Purdie have owned Rosewood Guesthouse since 2004. We fell in love with Rosewood Guesthouse and the wonderful Margaret River Wine Region and what a joy it is. During our time at Rosewood we have hosted guests from all over the globe in our bed and breakfast. Extensive improvements have been made to ensure we provide guest rooms that are welcoming, comfortable and provided with the comforts discerning guests appreciate.
A love of travel has kept us visiting many of the great wine regions of both the old and new world. Keith's love of motoring beauty say him buy our Rolls Royce affectionately known as Rose when our daughter was getting married. From that, together with his love of wine, we developed the wine tours Exclusive Rolls Royce Tours. The day is based around the type of day we enjoy when holidaying ourselves. Visiting a few interesting wineries to taste some wonderful wines, a lunch to enjoy then returning to Rosewood for some well deserved R&R!
Breakfast at Rosewood is a treat! Jane enjoys ensuring that each guest has a breakfast to suit and as such  our Daily Specials provide variety and interest while the firm guest favourites are also offered daily. Most of our produce is sourced locally and we love showcasing what a bed and breakfast should be about...which is a comfortable and private bedroom and a really good breakfast!
Our hosting style is friendly and relaxed. We want our guests to enjoy a lovely stay and as such we greet you and during check in will try to provide any information you require and to listen to any requests you may have before showing you to your room. At that point we withdraw and you will not see us again until breakfast. We are very aware that this is your holiday and we don't want to intrude on your time. At breakfast time we are more than happy to  give any additional information or simply have a chat when we have ensured everyone has had enough coffee!
Covid-19 has provided some new challenges at the guesthouse and we have adapted our dining room to ensure we can socially distance guests while still enjoying a lovely unrushed breakfast. We have ensured that our staff are well versed in providing a safe and sanitised environment.

Things to Do
Margaret River is an excellent base from which to explore the Cape to Cape region which encompasses  The Margaret River Wine Region. Augusta, Busselton and Yallingup are all within a 50 km radius from Rosewood Guesthouse.  When visiting the region, we recommend allowing at least 3 nights to experience the natural and man made attractions of the area. We have some great tour operators in the area, and we recommend visiting www.margaretriver.com to find out more.

Planning an itinerary is something we enjoy assisting with, when you check in we can provide a map and starting from what you have heard of and wish to visit, we can mark points of interest and ensure that you make the most of your time.

South of Margaret River is the town of Augusta,  southernmost tip of mainland Australia has The Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse with fantastic tours. Here you can see two oceans meeting, The Indian and The Great Southern. With whale watching in season and cruises on the Blackwood River to view the birdlife and perhaps a pod of Dolphins. On the way to Augusta you can visit:
  • Caves
  • Karri Forest
  • Working jewellers, Furniture makers, Artists studios
  • Wineries from large to small
  • Beaches both rocky and wild, to sheltered and calm where you can sometimes see the tame stingrays.
  • A Raptor centre with birds of prey
  • Australia’s most unique collection of shells
North of Margaret River is the town of Busselton, apart from the famous Busselton Jetty a 1.8km walk to the end, there are many points of interest including the small town of Cowaramup just 12 kms north of Margaret River,  home to a number of vibrant small businesses to interest the tourist. In the region you can visit:
  • Cheese and yoghurt producers
  • Cereal & Nut processors
  • Chocolate makers
  • Coffee roasters
  • Nougat makers
  • Olive Oil producers
  • Organic food and wine purveyors
  • Breweries
And if you need a break from the food trail,
  • Beaches both surf and swimming
  • An aboriginal cultural centre
  • Galleries
In the town of Margaret River there is an excellent shopping strip with a wide variety of retailers, galleries, cafes and restaurant. Most guests at Rosewood enjoy the 700 metre stroll to the main street restaurants. But if that sounds too far there are several which are just 250 metres away as well as a bottle shop.

Are you worried that your holiday will ruin your exercise programme? Don’t be!

With a Community Centre just 300 metres from Rosewood it is easy to stroll across for a swim in the indoor pool or have a casual gym visit.

A walking/running trail through to forest starts just 100 metres from Rosewood and an early morning walk in the company of the many native birds in the region has a special magic to start the day.

The golf course is just a 5 minute drive away and is open to the public.

The beaches are just 7 minutes drive with surfing and windsurfing lessons available.

Horse riding is popular in the region with a number of options including carriage rides for those who love horses but can’t sit astride!

Scooters and bicycles can be hired in the town.

Of course if all that sounds far too energetic, curl up with a book or magazine and enjoy the tranquility that is Rosewood!
